Old Colony Correctional Center opened in 1987 and is a medium security facility that can house up to 818 medium and minimum custody male inmates. The primary focus of Old Colony Correctional Center (OCCC) is mental health. The facility is comprised of six medium general population units, a minimum unit, an orientation unit, a protective custody unit, and a restrictive housing unit. Additionally, this facility has an Intensive Stabilization Observation Unit (known as ISOU) which houses residents during their evaluation period and also during acute mental health episodes and for behavioral issues. The responsibility of the ISOU unit is to give a thirty day evaluation as ordered by the Massachusetts DOC, and to evaluate offenders competency to stand trial by the court.
