The Massachusetts Department of Corrections recognizes the importance of inmates maintaining connections with their family and friends. While in prison, inmates can send and receive letters. To send correspondence to an inmate, you need their location and identification number, which can be found by searching the Massachusetts inmate database.
Be sure to include the following on all mail:
- The inmate's First and Last name
- Their identification number
- The facility's name and address
- Your full name and address in the return field
Inmates in Massachusetts may receive the following through the mail:
- Letters
- Photos no larger than 4"x6". Instant/polaroid photos are not allowed as they present a security issue. No nudity, weapons, drugs, alcohol, or gang affiliations including hand signs can be in the images.
- New softcover books, magazines and newspapers can be sent directly from reputable publishers like Amazon and Barnes and Noble. Third-party sellers and used books are not permitted. Publications must be free of nudity and sexual content. Additionally, hate speech, or anything deemed to be a possible security risk to the facility is prohibited.
Sending E-mails to a Massachusetts Inmate:
Inmates in Massachusetts are able to receive e-mail from friends and family members who sign up for an account through Corrlinks. This service is provided for a cost of .25¢ per e-mail. It is important to understand that the inmate cannot initiate the e-mail, they can only respond to an e-mail that is sent to them. The same rules apply to e-mails as regular correspondence.
Read the Massachusetts policy on inmate mail.
