Metro Transitional Center opened in 1982 and is a minimum security prison. The maximum capacity of this facility is 235 adult females. Inmates are housed in three buildings each divided into rooms that contain three to four beds. Orientation inmates are housed in building C, as are guide dog residents and Phase I and II inmates. Buildings A and B provide housing to Phase III residents and inmates who are serving long sentences. While incarcerated inmates are prepared for their reintegration through a work release program. This allows the inmate to leave during daytime hours and report to a job and earn a wage, instilling good work ethic and providing a savings account to utilize once released.
