Macon Transitional Center opened in 2008 and is a minimum security prison that helps prepare inmates for upcoming release. Centered around providing inmate's employment, housing, and a positive attitude, Macon Transitional Center plays a pivotal role in residents successful reintegration with society. Residents are housed in triple bunk beds. Work detail at Macon Transitional Center include laundry, barbering, maintenance, groundskeeping, sanitation, and food services. Inmates can receive a variety of substance abuse treatment, have access to programs about fatherhood and parenting, and can receive both individual and group counseling.

Georgia Department of Corrections requires all visitors complete a visitors application and be approved before visiting. Start by doing the following:
- All visitors regardless of age must fill out a visitors application.
- You must gather and submit a copy of all the documents required in the application, this includes a valid government issued photo ID.
- The application must be completed, signed and notarized.
