Description of Facility

Hays State Prison opened in 1991, has a maximum capacity of 1,101 male inmates, and is a close security prison. Close custody levels are reserved for inmates who are some of the most difficult and challenging to incarcerate. In addition to housing general population inmates in seven dorms, Hays State Prison houses about 750 level II mental health offenders. Close custody inmates are not allowed to leave the prison on work detail and require constant supervision by a correctional officer. This facility hosts the Paulding Residential Substance Abuse Treatment Center.

Visiting Hours & Information

Georgia Department of Corrections requires all visitors complete a visitors application and be approved before visiting. Start by doing the following:

All visitors regardless of age must fill out a visitors application.
You must gather and submit a copy of all the documents required in the application, this includes a valid government issued photo ID.
The application must be completed, signed and notarized.
Familiarize yourself with the Georgia Inmate Visitation Policy and Rules to know what is expected from all visitors.

If something happens and you can no longer make the scheduled visit you can cancel a visit here.
