Lemon Creek Correctional Center opened in 1969, houses all custody levels of both male and female inmates. Lemon Creek is located in Southeast Alaska and houses a maximum of 226 inmates. The facility acts as a processing center in pre-trial detainee's and sentenced inmates who are housed for longer terms.
Inmates are housed in a mixture of dormitories and celled units. Lemon Creek is comprised of five recreational yards, each reserved for it's own custody requirements. All inmates receive at least one hour of outdoor time per week. In addition to outdoor activities, inmates have access to a full size gym, with the exception of maximum security.
Inmates can work in correctional industries within the institution. Opportunities exist in laundry services and with the marine highway system for inmates to earn a small income.
