Alaska Department of Corrections encourages visitation from family and friends, and understand the correlation between positive influences in an inmate's life and their success at rehabilitation. Some important things to remember when visiting an inmate in Alaska:
- Visitors should register with the facility upon entrance. This includes showing proof of identity in the form of a valid government issued photo ID.
- You must adhere to the dress code, this includes not wearing revealing clothing, beachwear, or open toe shoes.
- Visiting hours are posted on the facilities page on this site.
- If you are late to visitation you may be rejected from entering.
- There are three types of visitation
- Secure visitation which restricts any physical contact.
- Contact visitation which allows a brief hug only at the start and end of the visit, and allows the visitor to sit across from the inmate.
- Special Visits which must be approved by the superintendent and is reserved for those traveling long distances to attend a visiting session.
All visitors are searched, vehicles on facility grounds may be searched as well.
- No cell phones, pagers, cameras, or electronics of any kind. Secure these items in your car, or in a visitation locker if available.
- No tobacco products or lighters.
- No weapons, No drugs or alcohol, this includes having these items in your vehicle.
Dress Code and Visiting Rules
- No bare feet or open toe shoes
- No hats
- No shorts or beach type clothing
- No clothing that contains profanity, or be symbolic of drugs or gangs, sexual symbols, or contain offensive or threatening language/images are prohibited
- No excessively tight clothing including spandex and spandex like clothing
- No see through or sheer clothing
- No tube tops, tank tops, halter tops, muscle shirts, or any other type of sleeveless clothing is allowed
- No electronics of any kind, including phones
- No exchanging anything with the inmate
- No kissing
