Wasco State Prison and Reception Center opened in 1991 specifically with the purpose of processing inmates as a reception center. Today in addition to the reception center, Wasco State Prison is comprised of several sub facilities.
Facility A consists of five 100 bed housing units that house level III inmates. Facility B is comprised of six 100 cell units for medium custody inmates. Facilities C and H are dormitory style housing units and can house approximately 282 inmates each. Facility D houses inmates with very long or life sentences, additionally the ASU and SHU is here housing protective custody and maximum security offenders.
