The Wakulla Correctional Institution (WCI) comprises the Main Unit, Annex, and Work Camp (currently closed). The Main Unit, with a capacity of 1,399 inmates, began receiving inmates on February 14, 1996. It accommodates various custody levels and medical and psychological grades. In 2005, it transitioned into a male Faith and Character Based Institution, offering the largest faith-based programming in Florida. The facility includes housing areas, administrative buildings, and recreational spaces.
The WCI Annex, constructed in 2008, is located near the Main Unit and houses protective management and mentally ill inmates. It serves as the entry point for new inmates and features dormitories, educational facilities, and recreational areas.
The WCI Work Camp, established in 2003 as a satellite facility is temporarily closed.
While incarcerated at Wakulla Correctional Institution, inmates can participate in various academic, vocational, and betterment programs, that include vocational studies in web development, academic studies in literacy, adult basic education and the ability to earn a GED. The betterment programs at Wakulla include trauma recovery, thinking 4 change, life mapping, creative writing, personal finance, beyond anger, 7 habits of highly effective people and more.
