Robinson Correctional Institution is a level III prison that can house up to 1,478 male inmates. This facility is comprised of ten housing units, many of which offer specific programs to treat an inmate's rehabilitative needs. Vocational programming includes small engine repair, machining, and culinary arts. This facility is named after Carl Robinson who was the first African American warden in Connecticut.

Inmates at Robinson Correctional Institution are allowed the following through the mail:

- photos 4x6 (no Polaroids, no nudity)
- softcover books, magazines, and newspapers sent new directly from a reputable vendor like Barnes and Noble

Inmates in Connecticut can make outgoing telephone calls through a company called Securus. Securus charges a low rate per minute. You can setup an account here. Inmates can buy phone minutes using their inmate account.
In Connecticut anyone can deposit funds into an inmates account, even if they are not on an inmate's visitation list. These funds can be used to purchase an assortment of items from the commissary including food, stamps, and hygiene items. You will need the inmate's full name and identification number in order to send them money.

All visitors must have an approved visitors application on file before they can visit.
To visit you must first fill out and submit a Connecticut Inmate visitors application here. The inmate should request this application from their assigned counselor who will then forward the application to the prospective visitor. A copy of a valid government issued ID must be submitted with the application. Return the completed signed application to your inmate at the facility they are incarcerated in.
The application process can take several weeks and it is up to the inmate to inform you of your visiting status (denied or approved).

A maximum of three visitors are allowed for both in-person and video visits.
Two in-person visits per week are allowed, and a single video visit per week.
Video visitation is also provided to inmates incarcerated in Connecticut, but you must be on the inmate's approved visitation list and must schedule your video visitation using the scheduling portal above.
Bring a valid government issued photo ID in order to enter into visitation.
You may bring a single debit or credit card to use in the vending machine.
Dress Code
The following clothing is not allowed:
- Clothes that resembles the clothes of the inmate
- Clothes that resemble law enforcement or military including camouflage
- No skirts, dresses, or shorts that expose two inches above the knee or more
- No halter tops, strapless tops, sheer, or see through, and may not expose the midriff
- No cargo pants
- clothing that exposes any breast, genitalia or buttocks, including sheer material
- No very tight fit/form fitting attire
- Revealing, seductive, or offensive clothing is not allowed
