The Reception Diagnostic Center was established in 1971. It is comprised of a four story building and multiple three celled pods. The main purpose of the Reception Diagnostic Center is to act as the gateway into the correctional system for all adult males in Indiana (with the exception of condemned inmates). Here offenders will be classified and processed to determine the facility that will best assist in their rehabilitation. This process is usually completed in two to three weeks. Because this is a reception center for all male offenders coming into the corrections system, it is considered a maximum security facility. The Reception Diagnostic Center has a maximum capacity of 600 inmates.
