Plainfield Correctional Facility officially opened in 1969. Initially known as the Indiana Youth Center (IYC), it served as a facility for young adult offenders aged 18-30. Over the years, the facility has undergone various changes in its mission. Plainfield Correctional Facility serves as the Regional Training site for the department, offering comprehensive training for both new and experienced staff members. Operating as a "level two" medium security facility, it houses offenders with short-term sentences or those who are nearing release.
The facility consists of seven housing units, including open bay dorms and individual housing units, catering to different offender populations. Plainfield Correctional Facility also provides various educational and vocational programs, substance abuse treatment, anger management, parenting courses, and vocational courses such as business technology and auto body repair. While incarcerated inmates can work in landscaping, recycling, housekeeping, and warehousing.
