The North Central Correctional Facility was originally constructed as a female prison around 1918. In 1982, it was converted into a male medium-security institution and later reclassified to minimum security in 1989. Currently, the North Central Correctional Facilities mission is to house minimum-security offenders preparing for release.
The facility consists of six general population housing units with multiple occupancy cells. The SHU unit is used to segregate offenders from the general population for various reasons, including protective custody. Programs offered at the North Central Correctional Facility include HiSET (GED), Life Skills, PRIME for Life, Thinking for a Change, gardening, and various social development and counseling activities.
Work assignments at NCCF encompass duties in the kitchen, facility maintenance, janitorial work, landscape maintenance, clerical tasks, and other support assignments. Vocational training includes apprenticeships in welding, plumbing, carpentry, cooking, baking, and building maintenance.
