Miami Correctional Facility is situated on 200 acres of the former Grissom Air Force Base. The Indiana Department of Correction began construction on the facility in 1997. Miami Correctional Facility is a Level 4 high-medium security prison with a capacity to house over 3,100 men in dormitories and cellhouses, along with a Level 1 facility of more than 200 individuals.
Miami Correctional Facility offers various work and educational programs, including Braille translation and a sewing shop that supports multiple partner organizations.
With a total of 35 buildings, including 16 dedicated to housing offenders, MCF can accommodate 3,188 offenders. Inside the secure perimeter, Phase I and Phase II house general population inmates, with various amenities such as gyms, a recreation centers, and educational facilities. The facility also offers rehabilitative opportunities, including educational classes, college-level courses, and self-help groups for offenders.
