The Maryland Department of Corrections understands the significance of inmates staying connected with their loved ones. While incarcerated, inmates have the opportunity to send and receive correspondence. To send anything to an inmate, you must have their location and identification number. You can locate this information by searching the Maryland inmate database.
Always include the following on correspondence:
- The inmate's First and Last name
- Their identification number
- The facility's acronym (letters that represent the facility) and address
- Your full name and address in the return field (will not be delivered if missing)
Inmates in Maryland may receive the following through the mail:
- Letters
- Up to five photos no larger than 4"x6". Instant/polaroid photos are not allowed. No nudity, weapons, drugs, or alcohol can be in the images.
- New softcover books mailed directly from an approved distributor including Amazon, and Barnes and Noble (third party sellers and used books are not allowed). Publications must not contain nudity, be sexually explicit, promote hate, or present a security threat to the facility, additionally they may not be hardcover.
Do not send the following through the mail:
- Items glued or taped to your correspondence
- Alterations such as paint, crayons, marker, glitter, etc.
- Labels and stickers
- Scents, perfume, or lipstick
- Liquid stains will result in the correspondence being rejected
- Cash, checks, money orders
- Messages written in code
- Information that could jeopardize the safety of the institution, including designs, communication systems, security systems etc.

Sending Quarterly Holiday Care/Food Packages
Maryland Department of Corrections participates in a package program offered through Access Securepak. These packages contain food, snack, drink and hygiene items and are limited to $100 of products per inmate each quarter. To order a package you will need to sign up for an Access Securepak account and know the inmate's full name and ID number.
