Hamilton Correctional Institution consists of three secure compounds, each serving distinct purposes. The Main Unit, established in 1987, accommodates open population inmates across nine housing units. Eight of these units are open bay dormitories (Dorms A-H), while one unit (I Dormitory) is dedicated to secure cell housing. Additionally, the Main Unit features administrative and disciplinary confinement in Y-Dormitory, alongside facilities for education and vocational training such as masonry and cabinet making. With amenities like a chapel and library, the Main Unit maintains an average inmate count of 1025.
The Annex, established in 1995, primarily functions as the reception and medical area of the institution. It houses a nine-bed inpatient infirmary and seven housing units for open population inmates. Among these units, five are open bay dormitories (Dorms A-E), while two are secure cell units (Dorms F and G). Administrative and disciplinary confinement is provided in H-Dormitory. The Annex also includes facilities for educational and programmatic activities, including a chapel and a dedicated programming building. The average inmate count in the Annex is 1200.
