Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex opened in 1990, and is located in West Liberty Kentucky, part of Morgan County. It is a medium security prison that also contains a stand alone minimum security unit. Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex has the capacity to house 1,930 male inmates. Residents of this facility can participate in programs including anger management, treatment for drug and alcohol addiction, and a general life skills course. A pre-release program called 'Prison to Paycheck' prepares inmates for their release (6-12 months) by teaching the offender how to complete job resumes, job interviews, and job applications.
Education is an important part of the rehabilitation process. Inmates housed at Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex can take adult basic education courses, earn a GED, and learn to read. Technical/Vocational programs offer inmates certifications in Carpentry, HVAC, small engine repair, and masonry. Additionally, Eastern Kentucky Correctional Complex in partnership with the Morgan County Animal Shelter, provide the ALPHA program, which trains dogs that have behavioral issues so that they can have a chance at adoption. The 4 Paws program selects 32 inmates who train and teach puppies for up to 23 weeks the basics of housebreaking, obedience and on leash walking.
