Decatur Correctional Center opened in January 2000 and can currently house a maximum of 707 minimum security female inmates. This facility places a large emphasis on programs and services that enhance an inmate's inter-relationships with their family and children. This is done through various programs, including social and psychological counseling, and education courses. Vocational opportunities provided include commercial custodial work, food services, computer technologies, and a college course that offers the foundations for a liberal studies/associate of arts degree.
Correctional industry programs at Decatur allow inmates to earn a wage during their incarceration and include upholstery, dog grooming/kennel keeping, and manufacturing clothing for use in the facilities.
