Chuckawalla Valley State Prison opened in 1988 and can currently house a maximum of 3470 inmates. This institution is comprised of four level II facilities and a minimum support facility. The four facilities that comprise this institution are A, B, C, and D. Each of these is further divided into four buildings.
Inmates can receive vocational training in HVAC, auto body repair, automotive maintenance, building maintenance, masonry, plumbing and welding. Adult basic education and GED classes are available. Substance abuse treatment, anger management, are also provided to inmates. Prison industries that inmates can work in include laundry and health care facility maintenance.
Chuckawalla Valley State Prison helps operate a fire department that can house up to 10 inmate firefighters who respond to local firefighting, first aid, CPR, and hazardous material calls.
